The District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission has recommended to President Biden three candidates for a judicial vacancy on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia created by the retirement of Judge Anita Josey-Herring. The president has 60 days to select a nominee to fill this vacancy.

Judicial Nomination Commission (JNC) is inviting qualified individuals to apply for a vacancy on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia that will be created upon the retirement of Judge Anthony C. Epstein, effective January 11, 2025. The deadline to apply for the vacancy is noon on January 7.

On October 24–25, the D.C. Bar hosted at its headquarters nearly 150 lawyers from all over the world for the 2024 International Conference on Legislation and Law. An additional 87 attendees joined the conference virtually.

The D.C. Bar has selected George Washington University Law School 2L student Kiera Yu as its 2024–2025 writer in residence. Yu will work alongside D.C. Bar staff writers and editors during the residency, which runs through June 2025.

On October 16, the Washington Council of Lawyers opened DC Pro Bono Week 2024 with the panel discussion “Pro Bono Goes Local,” featuring D.C. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby, D.C. Superior Court Associate Judge Carmen McLean, and pro bono-focused counsel from four law firms.

Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1 (Competence), 1.6 (Confidentiality of Information), 3.8 (Special Responsibilities of a Prosecutor), 4.4 (Respect for Rights of Third Persons), and 5.3 (Responsibilities Regarding Nonlawyer Assistants).
