Honoring the Constitution Through Civic Education
Every September 17, we celebrate Constitution Day—the anniversary of the U.S. Constitution’s signing in 1787. The D.C. Bar, together with the American Constitution Society (ACS), reaffirms our commitment to helping students understand the importance of the constitution and civic engagement through Constitution in the Classroom. This hands-on program brings lawyers and law students into local schools, giving students a chance to engage with the Constitution in meaningful ways and see how its principles continue to shape our lives today.
Volunteer
We invite lawyers and law students to volunteer with Constitution in the Classroom this fall. By sharing your expertise in the classroom, you can help empower local youth to connect their school lessons with real-world legal and civic issues. To sign up, please complete the Youth Civic Engagement Volunteer Interest Form.
Volunteer Qualifications
We seek attorneys and law students from diverse backgrounds and perspectives to volunteer as teachers for our Constitution in the Classroom programs. ACS will provide lesson plans that are fun, relevant, and age- appropriate, but volunteers may teach their own lessons that raise awareness about fundamental constitutional principles.
Get Involved
Join the D.C. Bar and ACS to make a difference by supporting civic education and shaping future leaders. Our programs provide a rewarding chance to engage with students in a meaningful way.
