Antitrust and Consumer Law

Vanessa Buchko

Vanessa BuchkoI'm honored to run for election as a Steering Committee Member for the D.C. Bar’s Antitrust and Consumer Law Community. For the last 18 years of my career, I’ve focused solely on consumer law, serving first as a legal aid attorney at Legal Counsel for the Elderly in D.C. and then in the Enforcement Office of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Recently, I joined Varnell & Warwick, a boutique firm focused on consumer class actions. In 2013, I served on the D.C. Bar’s Steering Committee for the Litigation Section; in that role, I organized substantive programs and created networking opportunities for litigators.

If elected to this position, I hope to share my expertise and enthusiasm for consumer law by supporting the development of consumer-friendly laws, creating useful programming for Bar members, and encouraging connections. I'm particularly interested in welcoming former government employees to private practice and helping ease that transition.

Arts, Entertainment, Media and Sports Law

Keenan Bilyeu

Keenan BilyeuI am excited to seek election to the Steering Committee of the D.C. Bar’s Arts, Entertainment, Media, and Sports Law Community. Although my primary practice is outside these fields, I have developed a strong interest in the legal issues facing artists and athletes.

My connection to the entertainment industry began through my uncle, who toured with several musical groups, including The Righteous Brothers. Through his experiences, I learned about many of the challenges performers encounter throughout their careers. I have also had the opportunity to work with a local artist as a pro bono client, which has given me practical insight into the legal needs of emerging creatives.

As a former college football player, I also appreciate the evolving landscape affecting athletes today.

If elected, I would look forward to helping support programming and engagement that brings together practitioners interested in these dynamic fields.

Renee Griffin

I’m excited for the opportunity to serve as a Steering Committee Member for the Arts, Entertainment, Media and Sports Law Community. As a staff attorney at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, I spend a lot of time investigating important legal developments and challenges in media law and coordinating with others in the space on strategies to deal with them. I’d hope to rely on that experience as a Steering Committee Member to help provide interesting programming on emerging and complicated issues that practitioners face in this area, and to facilitate networking between members across private firms and public interest organizations.

Corporation, Finance and Securities Law

Sean Donahue

Sean DonahueI am honored to run for election to the Steering Committee of the D.C. Bar’s Corporation, Finance and Securities Law Community. I have been active in bar association activities throughout my career and am eager to continue making meaningful contributions in this capacity. I plan to bring national caliber programming to local D.C. Bar CLE events through my extensive network of contacts in the corporate and securities legal community. I look forward to the opportunity to serve and contribute to the D.C. Bar’s success.

District of Columbia Affairs

Eric Irving

I am excited for the opportunity to serve on the D.C. Affairs Community Steering Committee. As a third-generation Washingtonian, I deeply care about this city, both its roots and its future. That care has guided me to serve as a volunteer – building homes, cleaning parks and mentoring young people. It has also driven me to serve through my career – working for DC Public Schools, DC Public Defender Service, Department on Disability Services and the DC Council. And care for my city at this moment of peril and promise leads me to embrace different avenues and new ways to serve.

As a new Steering Committee member, I will first seek to learn from current committee members and focus on building support for existing programs. I will also lend my perspective and passion to growing the Bar’s voice on the current and future direction of this city I love.

Environment, Energy and Natural Resources

Joseph Hicks

Joseph HicksIf elected to the D.C. Bar’s EENR Steering Committee, I will bring substantial energy regulatory experience and a commitment to advancing a cleaner, more equitable energy future. My practice spans electric generation, oil and gas, hydropower, and renewable energy, with a particular focus on renewable hydrogen and emerging clean energy infrastructure. I have handled litigation, ratemaking, infrastructure development, and regulatory matters, and I have seen how effective legal frameworks can accelerate decarbonization while protecting reliability and consumers.

I am committed to fostering dialogue around climate resilience, environmental justice, and responsible energy development. I have served on the Energy Bar Association’s Professional Education and Oil and Liquids Committees and currently serve as an editor of the Energy Law Journal. If elected, I will work to ensure the EENR Section offers programming that equips practitioners to meet the urgent environmental and energy challenges of our time. I respectfully ask for your vote.

Karl Karg

I am pleased to be considered for this position. I have practiced environmental law for over 30 years, first in Chicago with USEPA and then to Latham & Watkins. My entire career has focused on EPA-related matters, with a particular focus on enforcement and the energy sector. If elected, I hope to bring a fresh but experienced perspective to the committee, including ideas for forums and speakers and the recruitment of new members. I started working in the Clinton administration, and the changes and back-and-forth on so many issues since that time is challenging for practitioners and clients. The current state of affairs is no exception. There are so many opportunities for the committee to encourage discussion and understanding around environmental policy and regulation and I would be pleased to be a part of leading that effort on the committee. Thank you for your consideration.

Siyi Shen

Siyi ShenI would be honored to serve on the Steering Committee of the D.C. Bar’s Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Law Community. My perspective has been shaped by work across both public-interest and private-sector settings, including fellowships at nonprofit and research institutions focused on environmental and climate law and governance, as well as law firm practice representing clients navigating complex environmental regulatory and litigation challenges. That combination has given me a deep appreciation for the many ways environmental lawyers in Washington contribute—through advocacy, counseling, policy, litigation, and community-building. What draws me most to this opportunity is the chance to help build a legal community that is engaged, welcoming, and substantive. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to programming, strengthen community ties, and support conversations that are timely, practical, and meaningful. I would be excited to serve and to help sustain a strong and collaborative environmental law community in Washington, D.C.

Estates, Trusts and Probate Law

Amanda Odorimah

Amanda OdorimahIt has been a privilege to serve on the ETPL Community, and I am honored to seek a second term. I have valued the opportunity to contribute to a professional community that plays such an important role in supporting practitioners who help individuals and families plan for the future.

I am an estate planning attorney licensed in MD and DC. My practice focuses on helping families protect their legacies, navigate probate matters, and prepare for the unexpected. I see firsthand how thoughtful estate planning and informed legal guidance can provide stability, clarity, and peace of mind during some of life’s most important transitions.

If reelected, I hope to continue supporting the Community’s mission by helping to develop educational programming, fostering collaboration among practitioners at all stages of their careers, and encouraging meaningful conversations about emerging issues in estates, trusts, and probate law.

E. Regine Williams

I am excited for the opportunity to serve on the Estates, Trusts, and Probate Law Steering Community because I know of its relevance to each of our work. The work of the steering community is to share knowledge, create opportunities for mentorship, advocate and support our members. If you have ever met me, that's what I do on an individual basis with colleagues and what I will like to continue to in the position on the steering community.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve and partner with you as we bring more programs that elevate the Bar and our profession. I appreciate your support.

Family Law

Bianca Pinnock

Candidate did not submit a statement.

Rachel Rubinstein

Rachel RubinsteinI appreciate the opportunity to serve the DC legal community through the family law steering committee. Though I spent several years working in Northern Virginia, as a DC parent myself I have been thrilled to shift my primary practice to focus on DC based families. In my role at the Burr Law Firm I have represented clients in subjects which span from adoption to equitable distribution, to school choice. I also serve on the board of the DC Academy of Collaborative Professionals, with a goal of increasing the awareness of Collaborative Divorce and other non-litigated process options for dispute resolution.

I hope to use the position on the steering committee to connect family lawyers with other fields, opening information sharing and mentorship opportunities across subject matters. I look forward to fostering collaboration among family lawyers to support our community’s professional and personal endeavors.

Jessica Vinnik

Jessica VinnikI am grateful for the potential opportunity to serve on the Family Law Community Steering Committee. I started in family law in 2011 in New York and joined Hostetter Strent in 2023. My lawyering is informed by my foundation in social work; on the Steering Committee, I would develop programming to support members in being client-centered while withstanding the emotional challenges of family law. Having also represented clients in bankruptcy, foreclosure, and consumer debt, I have a keen appreciation of how other legal issues impact family law and would create learning opportunities about navigating these complexities. As a past Family Law Steering Committee member of the N.Y. LGBT Bar Association, I am particularly committed to thoughtful and diverse representation.

If elected, I would advocate for substantively advanced training and meaningful connection with colleagues. I would be honored to contribute to the success of my peers and the D.C. Bar.

Kayla Vossler

Kayla VosslerI am honored to run for the Steering Committee of the D.C. Bar’s Family Law Community. I am a family law attorney with a primary practice in D.C. and Maryland, focusing on collaborative law, mediation, and complex financial and parenting matters. In my daily work, I see the value of practical, skills-based programming and a strong professional network for family law practitioners at every stage of their careers.

I recently completed a two-year term as the Young Lawyers Section Representative to the Maryland State Bar Association, where I served as a voting member representing the interests of newer attorneys. I would bring that same commitment to engagement and service to this role.

If elected, I hope to support programming that provides practical tools for resolving cases outside litigation, fosters mentorship and connection within our Community, and introduces more content on cross-border and international family law as this area grows.

Government Contracts

Nick Iliff

Nick IliffMy name is Nick Iliff and I am currently a government contracts associate at Wiley. Previously, I served as a trial attorney at the Air Force and the Defense Logistics Agency, and earlier in my career, as a public defender. At the Air Force, I served as sole counsel in 46 GAO bid protests defending more than $2.9 billion in procurements and litigated 15 ASBCA appeals. Earlier at DLA, I served as the government contracts litigation team lead during the Supreme Foodservice litigation. At Wiley, I advise contractors on procurement disputes and the shifting regulatory landscape, including the ongoing FAR and DFARS overhauls. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute my experience to the Government Contracts Steering Committee.

Health Law

John J. Gillon, Jr.

John J. Gillon, Jr.John J. Gillon, Jr., is seeking reelection to the Health Law Community Steering Committee. John is an attorney-bioethicist with forty-plus years’ experience in law, domestic and international biomedical ethics, and clinical and research integrity. John spent two decades in private and government practice where he focused on Federal and Indian land issues and intellectual property matters. With a master’s degree in public health and additional educational background in anatomical sciences, John transitioned his focus to the health law area, concentrating on medical, clinical and research ethics. He served as an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center. He currently serves on the Institutional Review Board of the Holland Laboratory/American Cross Biomedical and has previously served on multiple other Institutional Review Boards. John sees voluntarism as a duty and professional responsibility and will continue to bring his enthusiasm to the Health Law Community leadership if he is reelected.

Randall Nice

Randall NiceI am excited for the opportunity to serve on the Health Law Steering Committee. As an associate at a boutique health law firm, my work regularly intersects with healthcare, compliance, contracting, and risk allocation, giving me a practical, business-oriented perspective on health law issues. My practice includes litigation, transactional, and consulting matters. I frequently help clients navigate ambiguity and develop workable solutions where the law is evolving or unclear.

I would bring to the Steering Committee a commitment to thoughtful programming, responsiveness to member needs, and a collaborative approach to leadership. I value creating opportunities for meaningful engagement—whether through substantive discussions, panels, practical resources, or networking. I am especially motivated to contribute to a community that supports both experienced practitioners and those developing their careers in health law. I would welcome the opportunity to help strengthen and grow the DC Bar’s Health Law Community.

Intellectual Property Law

Amy Cahill

Amy CahillI would like to serve as a Steering Committee Member of the Intellectual Property Section of the DC Bar because of the impact that the DC Bar has had on my development as an IP attorney. I graduated from George Washington University Law with an LLM in Intellectual Property Law in 2001 and began my first IP position at Oblon, Spivak in Crysal City, Virginia. In addition to my excellent mentors at Oblon, many of whom came from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and Copyright Office, I was impressed by the programming offered by the DC Bar that was not only professionally valuable, but personally delightful. A DC Women’s Bar event allowed me to have a conversation with a sitting Supreme Court Justice - tall cotton for a girl from Kentucky. The DC Bar has always served its members - and I am happy to serve the Bar.

Salvatore Fazio

Brian Medich

Brian MedichI welcome the opportunity to serve as a Steering Committee Member for the D.C. Bar’s Intellectual Property Law Community. I pursued a legal career specifically to practice Intellectual Property law and have been fortunate in reaching that goal. With experience across the IP spectrum—litigating trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and patents (including pharma)—I am passionate about the practice area and believe I will serve the community well.

Growing up in a blue-collar household, I didn’t know any lawyers and didn’t have anyone to help navigate my entrance into the profession. But, I’ve found my way and have developed a rich IP practice. As a Steering Committee Member, I want to help young lawyers find their way, promote professional development, and focus on networking to bolster the plain and ordinary meaning of “community” (IP jokes all around). I’d be honored to serve and contribute to the D.C. Bar’s continued success.

Audriana Osborne

Audriana OsborneI am delighted to submit my candidacy to serve as a Steering Committee member for the Intellectual Property Law Community.

As an early-career attorney, I wish to promote collaboration and innovation by organizing fresh programming that not only edifies our practice area, but also fosters connection and camaraderie within our diverse population and various fields of interest.

With professional experiences ranging from soft IP licensing to the public sector of IP, I am equipped with the requisite skills for developing successful programming aligned with the committee’s goals.

I request your support in my election to this committee, and thank you for your consideration. I intend to contribute my drive to fuse experienced teamwork with passion for this unique practice area in order to advance the mission of the Intellectual Property Law Community, while mutually enriching the lives of attorneys and those we serve.

Sasha Rao

Sasha RaoI am eager to serve on the Steering Committee of the D.C. Bar’s IP Law Community. As a patent litigator for the last eleven years and a father of two, I understand the importance of a legal community that keeps pace with the demands of our profession—both professionally and personally.

Further, as IP professionals, we are uniquely situated to face artificial intelligence both as a tool reshaping how we practice as well as a subject at the forefront of patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret law. This transformative moment brings enormous opportunity, but also real uncertainty. I want to help our community meet this moment with clarity and confidence—by organizing programs, encouraging advocacy, fostering dialogue, and developing practical resources that equip D.C. Bar members to adapt and thrive.

Omar Zeroual

Omar ZeroualI am eager to serve on the Intellectual Property Community Steering Committee and contribute the active perspective of a seasoned USPTO examiner specializing in the technologies reshaping modern patent practice. With over 12 years examining patent applications in AI/ML, distributed computing, blockchain, and business methods, I bring an examiner’s lens on how patentability decision are made, a viewpoint that enriches community dialogue and helps bridge the gap between practitioners and the patent system.

Beyond examination, I have served on USPTO’s cross-functional Patent Examination Tools UI design and Test Team, contributing to the modernization of the patent system. Recognized with the USPTO Bronze Medal Award and holding an MBA in IP management, I bring technical depth and business perspective to IP practice. Serving in my personal capacity, I would be honored to help develop substantive programming and contribute to bridging the gap between this community’s practitioners and the patent system.

Linda Evans

Linda EvansIt would be a pleasure to serve on the International Law Steering Committee particularly during these challenging geopolitical times. Since my childhood spent overseas during my father's military and diplomatic careers, I have pursued international issues in both educational and professional pursuits. I can draw upon years of vast experience in both public and private sectors managing international issues such as technology export controls, trade and market access, and global tax policy. I had the honor of being appointed to the President’s Export Council Subcommittee on Export Administration (PECSEA) to work with government and private sector officials on rules for exports of dual- use technology. I have also managed global issues with the OECD, the United Nations, the European Union, and other regional organizations.

Shervin Taheran

Shervin TaheranI am running for the International Law Committee Steering Committee to contribute practical national security and international law experience to the DC Bar community. My work in international law began with nuclear nonproliferation advocacy, including efforts to support UNSCR 2310 promoting the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. Before and during law school, I gained experience across several government institutions working on international and national security matters, including the State Department’s Office of the Legal Adviser, the Department of the Treasury, the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

I now practice in the National Security group at WilmerHale, where international law issues regularly arise in matters involving risk assessments, treaty analysis, global sanctions compliance, foreign sovereign immunity, and human rights concerns including arbitrary detention and hostage-taking. I would welcome the opportunity to support the Committee’s programming and engagement with these evolving international law challenges.
