Superior Court Seeks Comment on Amendments to Domestic Violence Rule 13

April 14, 2026

The Superior Court of the District of Columbia is seeking comment on proposed amendments to Rule 13 of the Rules Governing Proceedings in the Domestic Violence Division. The revised rule would increase the duration of a civil protection order to up to two years in response to amendments to D.C. Code § 16-1005(d).

The court’s Rules Committee will recommend approval of the amendments by the Superior Court Board of Judges unless, after consideration of comments from the bar and the public, they are modified or withdrawn. View the full text of the notice, including the language of the proposed changes, here

Written comments must be submitted by 10 a.m. ET on May 4. Comments should be addressed to Chair, Superior Court Rules Committee, and submitted by email to [email protected] or mailed to:
