D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center, technology company YOUTOPIAN, and D.C. Courts launch Virtual D.C. Courts Interactive Website

October 29, 2024

The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center, in partnership with the D.C. Courts launched the Virtual D.C. Courts Interactive Website, created by innovative technology company, YOUTOPIAN. The site launched for public use on October 29.

This immersive, 360-degree experience allows litigants, attorneys, and the public to tour D.C. Superior Court from the convenience of their device.  Users can interact with virtual avatars of judges, court and D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center staff to learn about available services before appearing in court.

“In some cases, over 95% of litigants in D.C. Superior Court are appearing pro se,” said D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center Executive Director Kelli Neptune, “the purpose of this project is to demystify the court experience for attorneys and the public and help foster access to justice for our community.”

“This collaborative effort is a win for everyone – and is yet another avenue in which the DC Courts are able to expand the ways in which we are providing access to justice to everyone we serve,” said DC Courts Executive Officer Herbert Rouson, Jr.

“We are harnessing the power of technology and innovation to bring the court to the public before they even leave their homes,” Neptune added.

Users of the Virtual D.C. Courts Interactive Website can interact with avatars of courts staff, from security personnel to clerks and judges, as well as D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center staff, to hear more about what to expect when they go to D.C. Superior Court.

“Bringing this to life together demonstrates the heart, dedication, and trust required to impact lives through joint human capacity. Behind the scenes carving this dream and now sharing it with the world is inspiring. Together we delivered this tool in four languages to honor diverse stakeholders and provide a resource to every citizen,” said YOUTOPIAN CEO Lisa Sibilia.

The Virtual D.C. Courts Interactive website can be accessed here. Any additional questions can be directed to Lauren Hall, Associate Manager of Communications and Marketing for the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center.
