Superior Court Proposes Amendments to Rules of Civil Procedure

March 30, 2022

The D.C. Superior Court Rules Committee has completed its review of proposed amendments to Superior Court Rules of Civil Procedure 3-I, 5, 10-I, 39, 40-I, and 79.

Under Rule 5, a person represented by an attorney must file electronically, unless nonelectronic filing is allowed by the court for good cause or is allowed by administrative order. An unrepresented person may file electronically if that person consents to being served electronically. Proposed changes to the other rules concern confidential addresses and specific designations for real property filings and jury trial docketing.

The Rules Committee will recommend approval of the amendments by the Superior Court Board of Judges unless, after consideration of comments from the Bar and the public, they are modified or withdrawn. Written comments must be submitted by May 4, 2022, via email to [email protected] or by mail to:
