JNC Recommends Judges Okun, Trafford for D.C. Courts Vacancies

The District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission (JNC) has announced replacement candidates for vacancies on the D.C. Court of Appeals and D.C. Superior Court.

The JNC is recommending to the president D.C. Superior Court Associate Judge Robert Okun as a candidate to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of D.C. Court of Appeals Judge Kathryn A. Oberly, and Superior Court Magistrate Judge Sherry M. Trafford to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Superior Court Judge Wendell P. The previous candidates for the two positions — Superior Court Judge Anthony C. Epstein and attorney Lee W. Jackson — have withdrawn their candidacies.

The D.C. Judicial Nomination Commission has recommended to the president of the United States six candidates for judicial vacancies on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia created by the retirement of Judge Craig S. Iscoe and Judge Kimberley S. Knowles.

JNC Announces Superior Court Vacancy

The D.C. Judicial Nomination Commission (JNC) is inviting qualified individuals to apply for a vacancy on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia resulting from the resignation of Judge Maurice A. Ross, effective February 27, 2026. The deadline to apply for the vacancy is noon on March 12.

The D.C. Bar is paying tribute to Robert Lester Weinberg, president of the Bar from 1978 to 1979, who died of natural causes on February 19 at his home in Arlington, Virginia. He was 94.
