D.C. Bar senior content editor Susannah Buell, social media and content marketing manager Megan Crawford, and content producers John Murph and Jeremy Conrad pose with their Luminary Awards from the National Association of Bar Executives Communications Section.

The District of Columbia Bar won two Luminary Awards for excellence in authored article and in PR/marketing/social media campaign from the National Association of Bar Executives Communications Section during its annual workshop in Park City, Utah, on October 3–6.

Washington Lawyer staff writer John Murph won top prize in the authored article category for his in-depth feature on artificial intelligence, ChatGPT, and the future of the practice of law, which appeared in the May/June 2023 issue of the magazine. This is Murph’s second Luminary award — his story on legal deserts won praise from judges last year for spotlighting a lesser-known facet of the access to justice gap.

The D.C. Bar’s marketing campaign for the 2023 District of Columbia Judicial & Bar Conference, marking the 50th anniversary of the D.C. Home Rule Act, also bested other contenders in the PR/marketing/social media campaign category.

Drawing more than 600 attendees, the conference was a huge success, propelled, in part, by the D.C. Bar Marketing & Communications Department’s comprehensive campaign that included an event microsite, videos, targeted email, social media posts, and PR outreach. The campaign creative leveraged historic photos to complement editorial content that provided important context about the Home Rule Act.
