Bar Seeks Candidates for Various Committee and Board Vacancies

June 15, 2021

The D.C. Bar Board of Governors is seeking candidates for appointment in the fall to the following standing committees: Communities, Continuing Legal Education, Global Legal Practice, Judicial Evaluation, Lawyer Assistance, Leadership Development, Nominations, Pro Bono, and Regulations/Rules/Board Procedures. Nonlawyer candidates are encouraged to apply for appointment to the Global Legal Practice Committee.

The deadline to apply for the above vacancies is August 2. Descriptions of D.C. Bar standing committees can be found here.

Additionally, the Bar is seeking candidates to fill vacancies on the D.C. Judicial Nomination Commission (JNC) and on the board of directors of the Neighborhood Legal Services Program (NLSP). The deadline to apply for the NLSP is September 13 and October 7 for the JNC.

JNC: All terms are for six years. Applicants for the JNC must be active members of the D.C. Bar and bona fide residents of the District of Columbia.

NLSP: Candidates must be licensed attorneys who are supportive of the Legal Services Corporation Act and have an interest in, and knowledge of, the delivery of quality legal services to the poor.

To apply for any of these openings, please submit a résumé and a cover letter stating the committee(s) and/or board on which you would like to serve and a description of relevant work or volunteer experience. Leadership experience with D.C. Bar committees, voluntary bar associations, or the Bar’s Communities is highly desirable.

Submit materials via email to Crystal White, board and committee liaison, at [email protected].

Committee appointments will be approved by the Board of Governors in October. Appointments to the NLSP board will be made in November. All applicants will be notified regarding the status of their applications shortly thereafter.
