Do You Have What It Takes to Be a Trivia Night Champion?

January 20, 2026

By Jeremy Conrad

D.C. attorney and three-time Jeopardy! champion Tom Devlin will be hosting the D.C. Bar Communities’ Legal AttorneyTom Devlin on Jeopardy! game show.Trivia Night at the Bar’s headquarters on January 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. Devlin will also be sharing behind-the-scenes anecdotes from Jeopardy! and a brief Q&A about his experience on the show.

Attendees are invited to simply gather or join teams of up to six participants for an evening of food, drinks, networking, and good-spirited competition for prizes and bragging rights. The quiz will incorporate law, U.S. history, and pop culture in a format designed to entertain and amuse legal professionals of all ages, interests, and experiences.

To help prospective attendees limber up, here are some sample questions:

Latin & Legal Terms: This “B” word describes a legislative structure with two chambers.

U.S. History: In what year did D.C. residents first cast votes in a presidential election?

The answers are “bicameral” and “1964,” respectively. If one or both stumped you, don’t worry, there is content for culture vultures as well. Bonus round questions will involve identifying theme songs from legal industry-related TV shows, a category in which teams with a broad age range had an advantage at the inaugural trivia event held on September 25.

This author participated in last fall’s trivia night and may compete again in the coming event. Any concerns about competitive advantage should be assuaged, however, by the fact that my team failed to take the prize. We had no idea that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff television program Angel prominently featured a fictional law firm.
