Superior Court Enacts Amendments to Domestic Violence Rule

June 15, 2022

On June 14 the D.C. Superior Court Board of Judges issued Rule Promulgation Order 22-08 approving amendments to Rule 5 of the Rules Governing Proceedings in the Domestic Violence Division. The alternative service provisions in subsection (a)(3)(D) have been amended to permit a petitioner to file an alternative service motion prior to the hearing. Under new subsection (c)(2), if the court permits alternative service, the court must specify how proof of service should be made. The enacted revisions take effect July 1 and shall govern all proceedings commenced thereafter.
