JNC Recommends Six Candidates for Superior Court Vacancies

The District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission has recommended to President Biden six candidates for judicial vacancies on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia created by the retirement of Judges William W. Nooter and John M. Campbell. The president has 60 days to select a nominee for each vacancy.

The nominees for Judge Nooter’s position are Claudia A. Crichlow, an administrative law judge for the District of Columbia Office of Administrative Hearings; Kevann A. Gardner, supervising attorney in the Trial Division of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia; and Kenechukwu O. Okocha, deputy chief in the Sex Offense and Domestic Violence Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

To fill Judge Campbell’s position, the commission has recommended Special Master Katherine E. Oler of the United States Court of Federal Claims, Superior Court Magistrate Judge Judith Pipe, and Charles J. Willoughby Jr., deputy chief of the Major Crimes Section of the Superior Court Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

Judicial Nomination Commission Announces Chief Judge Vacancy

On April 1 the D.C. Judicial Nomination Commission announced that the position of chief judge of D.C. Superior Court will be vacant when the term of Chief Judge Anita Josey-Herring expires on September 30, 2024. Josey-Herring is not seeking reappointment.
