Blackburne-Rigsby Redesignated as D.C. Court of Appeals Chief Judge

Honorable Anna Blackburne-RigsbyThe District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission has redesignated the Honorable Anna Blackburne-Rigsby as chief judge of the D.C. Court of Appeals for a third consecutive term. Her new four-year term begins March 18, 2025.

As chief judge, Blackburne-Rigsby chairs the Joint Committee on Judicial Administration, the policymaking body for the D.C. Court of Appeals and D.C. Superior Court. She has been guided in her decision making by the vision, goals, and strategies articulated in the D.C. Courts’ 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, “Open to All, Trusted by All, Justice for All.”

Blackburne-Rigsby has served on the Court of Appeals as associate judge since 2006 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. She was first appointed chief judge of the court in 2017.

In addition to her service on the court, Chief Judge Blackburne-Rigsby is immediate past president of the Conference of Chief Justices and is on the Board of Directors for the National Center for State Courts. She also leads committees and working groups of the Conference of State Court Administrators.

D.C. Courts Release 2024 Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll

Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby of the D.C. Court of Appeals and Chief Judge Milton C. Lee, Jr., of the D.C. Superior Court have released the 14th annual Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll, recognizing the contributions of those D.C. Bar members and other lawyers authorized to perform pro bono legal work in the District of Columbia who completed 50 hours or more of pro bono service during the prior calendar year.
