Political Law Primer: Campaign Finance, Gift and Pay-to-Play Essentials

**This is a previously recorded program, originally recorded on October 6, 2016.
In the months leading up to the November 2016 elections, attorneys should be aware of political contribution limits for individuals and PACs, and corporations/businesses in states that permit them to contribute; the rules regarding use of corporate facilities and resources for political or official; independent expenditures and the campaign finance landscape under Citizens United; and so-called "pay-to-play" rules, including how they may apply to federal campaigns. This presentation will give an overview of the law, examples and practical suggestions for compliance.
This program will be beneficial for attorneys with clients that are or may become politically active, either through a political action committee or direct contributions or expenditures. Attorneys with financial services clients that are state or local government contractors and thus subject to federal "pay-to-play" rules would benefit from this program too.
This program was sponsored by the D.C. Bar Communities Office.
