Description: This series provides an overview of basic federal labor law, from practice and procedure before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to unfair labor prac­tices and union organizing.

 

Part 1: Practice and Procedure Before the National Labor Relations Board (February 3) This session will take you through practice and procedure before the NLRB, including board structure, jurisdiction, certification proceedings, unfair labor practice proceed­ings, remedies, and appeals. Part 2: Unfair Labor Practices (February 10)

This session will deal with manage­ment and union unfair labor practices (ULPs). Management ULPs include unlawful coercion and restraint, domina­tion and interference, discrimination, and bad-faith bargaining. Union ULPs include unlawful coercion and restraint, discrimination, and breach of the duty of fair representation. Secondary activity and picketing also are covered. Faculty: Ellen O. Part 3: Union Organizing (February 24)

This session will explore the rights guaranteed under the National Labor Relations Act, bar­gaining units, improper action by manage­ment, the certification process, and the duty of fair representation.
