Execution of Judgments Under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act

Date & Time: Monday, March 31, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:15 pm

CLE Credit: Yes

Event Description
2.0 Credit Hours

The Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA) limits the ability of creditors to enforce judgments against foreign sovereigns. Anyone who deals with foreign governments, foreign government contractors, or even foreign government debt investors will benefit from this class. Our faculty panel will provide you with a practical look at FSIA and how it affects the execution of judgments against foreign governments and their instrumentalities. We will discuss the presumptions of immunity and their exceptions, and we will illustrate those principles with real-world proceedings by government contractors.  This class will allow you to give better advice to clients considering contracting with a government entity or investing in government debt.  In addition, anyone advising sovereign clients will be better equipped to advise about options for resisting enforcement of judgments.
