Description:  This new intermediate-level class will guide you through the laws governing limited liability companies (LLCs) and other business entities in the District of Columbia.  You will learn why over 90% of the business entities formed in the District are LLCs, and the advantages and disadvantages of other legal entity forms, including  corporations, nonprofit corporations, professional corporations, general partnerships, limited partnerships, limited liability limited partnerships, unincorporated nonprofit associations, and statutory business trusts. Our faculty expert, one of the drafters of the District's new legal entities law that took effect in 2012, will help you understand the law and its practical application for your practice.  The legal concepts, organizational principles, tax considerations, advantages, and attributes of the various legal entities will be discussed.  You may also be interested in attending the “Drafting Operating Agreements for LLCs and Other Business Entities 2014” class to be offered for the first time on Tuesday, February 18.
