2019 D.C. Bar General Election & Communities Elections: Frequently Asked Questions


Q: When can I vote?
A: Voting will take place online only from April 30 through May 24. Communities elections are included on the ballot.

Q: Who is eligible to vote in the general election?
A: Active attorneys on the member roll as of April 15, 2019, are eligible to vote in the Bar’s 2019 general election.

Q: Who is eligible to vote in the communities elections?
A: Any D.C. Bar member who is in good standing and a member of a community may vote in that community’s election. 

Q: How do I vote?
A: Eligible voters should receive an email link to the ballot from Survey & Ballot Systems (SBS), an independent vendor administering the 2019 D.C. Bar elections. Email links will be sent on April 30 and May 1. Eligible voters can also log into the www.dcbar.org website with their D.C. Bar member credentials and click on the “Vote Now” button in their profile to vote.

Q: Are paper ballots available this year?
A: No. Voting will take place online exclusively this year. No paper ballots will be made available.

Q: I didn’t receive an email link to the ballot, but I am eligible to vote. How can I access the ballot?
A: If you do not receive an email link by May 2, 2019, and are eligible to vote, please contact support@directvote.net. Please do not forward the link once it is received, as it contains your unique ballot log-in information. To assure that your election email notices arrive safely in your inbox, add the following email address as an approved sender: noreply@directvote.net.

Q: I recall receiving an email link to the ballot, but I can’t find my unique link or log-in credentials.  How can I access the ballot?
A: If you do not have your election login information,  enter your email address that is on file with the D. C. Bar at this link, and your election login information will be emailed to you. You can also log into the www.dcbar.org website with your D.C. Bar member credentials and click on the “Vote Now” button in your profile.

Q: Once I submit my online ballot, can I change any of my candidate selections before the general election closes?
A: No. Once you cast your vote, your vote is final.

Q: How do I know that my ballot was cast?
A: After selecting “Submit Ballot” with your candidate selections, you will receive email confirmation that your ballot was received.

A:  If you have a technical issue, send an email to support@directvote.net or call (952) 974-2339. SBS staff members are available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. eastern time and will respond to your inquiry within one business day.
