On November 12 the D.C. Bar will host a book talk and signing with award-winning journalist Elaine Weiss, author of the highly acclaimed book The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote. The event is the first in a series of programs the Bar will be presenting in the next few months leading up to its 2020 Conference on June 24 to 26, focused on the centennial of the women’s right to vote.

Weiss will discuss her book and one of the greatest political battles in American history: the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Hailed as a “riveting, nail-biting political thriller” with powerful parallels to today’s political environment, The Woman’s Hour is currently being adapted for the small screen through a partnership between Hillary Clinton and Steven Spielberg.

Following Weiss’ discussion, Pooja Chaudhuri, Associate Counsel for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law’s Voting Rights Project will provide a brief presentation on how to get involved in their Election Protection program.

The event takes place at the Bar’s headquarters, 901 4th Street NW. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the lecture begins at 5:30, followed by the book signing and reception. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
