Enrich Your Career: Lead a Community

Why Serve on a D.C. Bar Community Steering Committee?

  • Lead a community into the future.
  • Collaborate with colleagues.
  • Choose and develop programming in your practice area.

Steering committee members are responsible for coordinating programs, projects, publications, and community outreach activities. Steering committees also may develop public statements and submit comments on legislation, court rules, and regulatory reform related to the community's practice area.

Community members may submit Candidate Interest Statements year-round. Candidate Interest Statements submitted between now and  February 1, 2019 will be reviewed by the D.C. Bar Screening Committee for inclusion on ballots for the steering committee elections to be held in the Spring of 2019. If you submit a Candidate Interest Form for the Spring 2019 elections, please make sure to attach a current résumé.

The Screening Committee will choose steering candidates by early March 2019. Those elected will serve three-year terms, beginning July 1, 2019.

Please note: A Candidate Interest Statement does not automatically confer a place on the ballot.
