Speaking of Ethics: Client’s Freedom to Select Counsel

“Clients Freedom to Select Counsel” was the title and topic of the April 2002 “Speaking of Ethics” column. Rule 5.6 (Restrictions on the Right to Practice) received important and pertinent mentioning. This column discussed the fundamental right of lawyers to not be restricted by former firms for continuing associations with clients, the allowance for certain financial obligations to former firm, and also the attorney’s right to not be restricted by a placement agency from accepting full-time employment with a temporary employer.
