Kim Bey

Kim Bey has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1990 and is celebrated as one of the District of Columbia's top tax experts and business advisors. She is an author of the Amazon best-seller "Secrets of a Tax-Free Life: Surprising Write-Off Strategies Most Business Owners Miss." Currently, she serves on the Practice Management Service Committee of the D.C. Bar and provides the District's attorneys with expert tax advice to help them manage their own practices. She speaks regularly for the D.C. Bar as well as for the Maryland Bar Association and other groups.  

Niki BlackNicole (Niki) Black, Esq. is a Rochester, New York attorney and the Legal Technology Evangelist at MyCase, a law practice management software company. She is the nationally-recognized author of "Cloud Computing for Lawyers" (2012) and a co-author of "Social Media: The Next Frontier" (2010), both published by the American Bar Association. She also co-authors "Criminal Law in New York," a Thomson West treatise. She writes a weekly column for The Daily Record, has authored hundreds of articles and regularly speaks at conferences about the intersection of law, mobile computing and Internet-based technology.   

cookeGreg Cooke is the sales manager at USI Affinity for their Lawyers' Professional Liability Division. His team works with firms on changing or obtaining their professional liability coverage. He has ten years' experience in the insurance industry.





Tasha Cooper

Tasha (TC) Cooper, Esq. is the founder and president of UpwardAction LLC, a digital marketing advisor and online content publisher. She is also the founder of LawyersLaunchpad. com, an online education and training portal for entrepreneurial attorneys, whom TC calls "lawyerpreneurs."

Claude DuclouxClaude Ducloux, Esq. serves as an industry liaison to LawPay, the preferred payment solution for attorneys. He brings 40 years of experience to the legal community as an attorney with a focus on civil trials, business formation, transactions, trials and appeals, mediation and arbitration. He served as chair of the Board of Trustees for the Texas Center of Legal Ethics and Professionalism for two years, and has written extensively on legal ethics issues.


Nakia GrayNakia Gray, Esq. is the powerhouse business woman behind Nakia Gray Legal, P.C. She is a licensed attorney and business consultant who passionately supports players in the new era of entrepreneurship by providing business-minded legal advice as well as branding and marketing strategy. In addition to building her own successful law practice, Ms. Gray has over 15 years of expertise in business, marketing and legal services. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, a Master's degree in Strategic Communication, and a Juris Doctor.


Niki L. Irish, LICSW is a senior counselor with the D.C. Bar Lawyer Assistance Program, She has over ten years' experience in counseling and mental health. She has a B.S. in Psychology and Family Studies from Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie College) and an MSW from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, with a concentration in Employee Assistance Programs.

Dr. Rick KabraDr. Rick Kabra is the CEO of CosmoLex Cloud, a web-based law practice management system designed for small law firms. He has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and has over 10 years of experience in the legal software industry catering to the specialized technology needs of small law firms. Mr. Kabra has given over 100 seminars and published numerous articles on legal technologies about law office management, cloud computing, legal billing, and business and trust account compliance issues. His passion is to help attorneys use technology to simplify their law firm operations. Under his watch, the CosmoLex platform has grown to include practice management, billing, business and trust accounting functions, and is being used by small law firms in all 50 states.

Sharon NelsonSharon D. Nelson, Esq. is the president of Sensei Enterprises, Inc., a digital forensics, information security and information technology firm in Fairfax, Virginia. She is a frequent author (fifteen books published by the ABA and hundreds of articles) and speaker on legal technology, information security and electronic evidence topics. She was the president of the Virginia State Bar from June 2013 to June 2014 and is a past president of the Fairfax Law Foundation.


Jack NewotnJack Newton is the founder of Clio, one of the pioneers of cloud-based practice management. He has spearheaded efforts to educate the legal community on the security, ethics and privacy-related issues surrounding cloud computing, and has become a nationally recognized writer and speaker on these topics. Mr. Newton has recently joined the board of the International Legal Technology Standards Organization (ILTSO), where he will help the organization craft standards for law office technology. He also co-founded and is acting president of the Legal Cloud Computing Association (LCCA), a consortium of leading cloud computing providers with a mandate to help accelerate the adoption of cloud computing in the legal industry.  


Erin PageErin Page, Esq.  is a research and reference attorney and law librarian with Fastcase. She is a graduate of the William and Mary Marshall Wythe School of Law, where she received honors in Legal Practice. She also received a BA in Classics from St John's College, Annapolis, and a Master's degree in Legal Library Science from the Catholic University of America. Prior to working with Fastcase, Ms. Page worked for eight years as an attorney with Convergent in Insurance Mediation and as company trainer/ CLE coordinator. 

Denise J. Perme, LICSW
 is the manager of the D.C. Bar Lawyer Assistance Program. She has 20 years of experience in counseling and mental health, with a focus in substance abuse and Employee Assistance Programs. She has a B.A. in Psychology and an MSW from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, with a concentration in Occupational Social Work. She is licensed to practice clinical social work in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Seth PriceSeth Price, Esq. is the managing partner and co-founder of Price Benowitz LLP, a law firm with offices in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Under his management over the last decade, Price Benowitz LLP has grown from a small two-attorney firm into a vibrant mid-size law firm. Price Benowitz now boasts award-winning personal injury and criminal defense practices, in addition to white collar criminal defense, trusts & estates, immigration, qui tam, corporate, and OFAC economic sanctions practice groups. Mr. Price recently founded Blue Spark Digital LLC, a legal marketing agency, to help bring this vision to other firms nationally. 

Daniel SchumackDaniel Schumack, Esq. is a 1987 graduate of American University's Washington College of Law. His practice focuses on issues of special concern to other lawyers. He has been presenting ethics-focused continuing legal education courses for the D.C. Bar's CLE program since 2006. He is a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers(APRL), and is peer review rated AV-Preeminent in Martindale-Hubbell.

In addition to defending lawyers in the disciplinary systems of the District, Virginia, and Maryland, Mr. Schumack has served as court-appointed respondent's counsel in the District in matters involving impaired or incapacitated attorneys. He has also served as Special Disciplinary Counsel when the D.C. Office of Disciplinary Counsel is conflicted out of investigating or prosecuting a bar complaint.

John Simek

John W. Simek is the vice president of Sensei Enterprises, Inc., an information technology, digital forensics and information security firm in Fairfax, VA. Mr. Simek has a national reputation as a digital forensics technologist and has testified as an expert witness throughout the United States. He is a frequent author (fifteen books published by the ABA and hundreds of articles) and speaker on legal technology, information security and electronic evidence topics.


Ben TakisBenjamin Takis, Esq. has represented some of the largest pension funds, welfare trusts and labor organizations in the country, along with public charities, private foundations, lobbying groups, trade associations, and other non-profits of all types and sizes. Prior to starting Tax-Exempt Solutions PLLC in 2012, he worked as an associate at the premier labor firm Bredhoff & Kaiser and the leading employee benefits boutique Groom Law Group. He has also served as Of Counsel to Weinberg, Jacobs & Tolani LLP since March 2013. Mr. Takis' writing on employee benefits matters has twice been featured in BNA publications, and his writing on tax-exempt organizations law has been featured in the Thomson Reuters publication Taxation of Exempts. He is also an active public speaker, teaching over 20 classes and workshops per year, at venues including the Center for Nonprofit Advancement, the Foundation Center, the Greater Washington Society of CPAs, American University Washington College of Law, Tidewater Community College, Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts, and more.

Hope ToddHope C. Todd, Esq. oversees the legal ethics program at the D.C. Bar. Since 2006, she has provided legal ethics guidance through the D.C. Bar's Ethics Helpline on the interpretation and application of the D.C. Rules of Professional Conduct. Ms. Todd regularly teaches CLE ethics courses, and has served on panels for local, national and international audiences. She is a contributing author for the "Speaking of Ethics" column for the Washington Lawyer. Ms. Todd is staff counsel to the D.C. Bar Rules of Professional Conduct Review and Legal Ethics Committees and also serves as a staff consultant to the Bar's Global Legal Practice Task Force. She is a current member of the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility (SCEPR) and is the SCEPR liaison to the ABA Commission on the Future of Legal Services.

Ed WaltersEd Walters, Esq. is the CEO and co-founder of Fastcase. Before founding Fastcase, he worked at Covington & Burling, in Washington, D.C. and Brussels. Emily WoodEmily Wood, Esq. is the client website manager offering legal websites to valued Smokeball clients. Ms. Wood was a federal regulatory and compliance attorney prior to working at Smokeball. She is a member of the American Bar Association (Solo, Small Firm and General Practice as well as the Young Lawyers Divisions) and volunteers at the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago.
