Lawyer Assistance Program

Educational Presentations

The D.C. Bar Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP) offers free educational presentations to firms, voluntary bar associations, judges, law schools and other related organizations in the D.C. metropolitan area. The goal of these programs is to raise awareness of LAP services and the impact that substance use and mental health disorders has on the legal profession.

Programs can be standardized or specially designed for your group. As an added bonus, some programs may qualify for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits. The sessions typically focus on:
  • Mindfulness-based stress management;
  • Balancing work and life;
  • Compassion fatigue;
  • Mental health wellness;and/or
  • Substance use education.
The information provided in these presentations can help remove barriers that hamper the recognition of problems, and provide steps toward recovery.

These programs and other free LAP services, available to D.C. Bar members and District law students and judges, may help prevent disciplinary problems, protect clients, support family members and professional associates, and strengthen the legal profession.
