D.C. Bar 2020: A New Five-Year Horizon

A Word From D.C. Bar Past President Brigida Benitez

Brigida Benitez

The D.C. Bar embarked on a holistic review of the opportunities and challenges facing the Bar and the profession it serves through a formal strategic planning process. This process is guided by a Strategic Planning Committee (SPC), comprised of prominent members of our bar representing all segments of the legal profession, including academic, corporate, government, international, judicial, large firm, mid-/small firm, and solo practitioners. By creating a special Web site for this process, we hoped to engage our members and have them be active participants as we lay the groundwork for our activities through the year 2020.

The SPC is responsible for providing perspective and real world considerations relative to the opportunities and challenges identified for the Bar, providing input into the development of key strategic questions the Bar should consider in crafting a strategic vision and set of strategic imperatives, and discussing the implications of research findings relative to strategic questions. The SPC solicited and considered the opinions of diverse stakeholders that the Bar serves, and all D.C. Bar members have an opportunity to provide views during this process. The SPC recommended a strategic plan to the Bar’s Board of Governors.

The D.C. Bar 2020 Strategic Plan provides direction five years. We ask you to visit the Web site often to read the latest developments and offer your input. The Bar’s business is your business. With your help, we created a plan that elevates the Bar and meets the needs of its members and community.
