Bar Members: Beware of Bogus Court Summons E-Mail Messages

D.C. Bar members have reported the receipt of phony court summons notices. The notices, bearing forged return addresses, state that the recipients are due in court in mid-January 2014. Recipients are asked to open an attached .zip file for details, which contains malware intended to infect the recipient’s computer.

It is recommended that individuals who receive messages of this type delete them immediately. Actual cases in the District of Columbia Courts can be verified on the Court’s Web site.
