D.C. Bar Fully Automates Certificate of Good Standing Request Process

July 1, 2019

Beginning July 1, 2019, D.C. Bar members can now request their Certificate of Good Standing online, a system upgrade aimed at providing members a more secure, efficient, and positive experience. The Bar is the first mandatory bar to fully automate its Certificate of Good Standing request fulfillment process.

Bar members can request their certificate by logging into their member account and navigating to the “Certificate of Good Standing Request” link. Members will receive their certificate by email immediately after placing their order. Certificates also will be available for download from members’ account for up to 30 days after the order has been placed.

Members will still have the option of receiving a hard copy of their certificate if they so choose. Same-day and next-day certificate requests will be processed online, with same-day requests available for pickup from the D.C. Bar headquarters, 901 4th Street NW, at 2 p.m. each business day if the order is placed by 11 a.m. that day.

Next-day requests will be processed, and certificates will be mailed, the same business day they are received if ordered by noon. Regular hard copy orders will be processed and mailed within two business days.

In addition to the convenience of being able to request a certificate online, members also are afforded a new level of privacy. Members will no longer be required to provide their Bar numbers or other personal information to couriers or legal assistants. Additional features of the new system include the ability to mail or email a certificate to a third-party recipient, email a receipt to a third party, and submit a same-day hard copy request online.

“In the digital age, streamlining our processes make sense both for us and for our members,” says David Chu, director of the Bar’s Membership Department. “We are happy to provide our members with options that best suit their needs. The rollout of an automated Certificate of Good Standing process will save our members time and provide a user-friendly experience.”

If you have any questions about the new process, please email [email protected] or call the Membership Department at 202-626-3475 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., and between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The Membership Department is closed from 1 to 2 p.m. daily.
