Bar Seeks Nominations for Annual Awards

The D.C. Bar is seeking nominations for its annual awards, honoring outstanding projects and contributions by Bar members. Winners will be recognized at the 2017 Celebration of Leadership: The D.C. Bar Awards Dinner and Annual Meeting. The deadline for submissions is March 20.

Bar members are encouraged to submit nominations for the following: Bar Project of the Year/Frederick B. Abramson Award, Section of the Year, Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year, and Laura N. Rinaldi Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year. Please note that a new award, the Voluntary Bar Association of the Year, has been added to highlight and recognize the valuable work of the voluntary bars.

The Bar Project of the Year/Frederick B. Abramson Award recognizes a Bar Committee or project that, through innovation, initiative or unusual dedication, has resulted in a significant benefit to the Bar and its individual members.

The Section of the Year Award honors the outstanding D.C. Bar section that, through its educational programs, professional activities, involvement in current issues and legislation, member communications, and assistance to the community, best exemplifies professional service to its members, its area of practice, and the local community.

The Laura N. Rinaldi Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award honors exemplary individual service through the provision of direct legal services to low-income individuals in the District.

The Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year Award recognizes exemplary service by a law firm in providing direct legal services to low-income individuals in the District.

The Voluntary Bar Association of the Year Award recognizes the D.C. chapter of a voluntary bar association that provides exemplary service to its members, the legal profession and/or the D.C. community, through programming, community outreach, special initiatives, and/or professional activities.

Nominations may be submitted in one of the following ways: (1) online at www.dcbar.org/awards; (2) by e-mail to annualawards@dcbar.org; or (3) by mail to Executive Office, District of Columbia Bar, 1101 K Street NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20005-4210. Electronic submissions are encouraged.

The winners will be honored on June 14 at the Bar’s Celebration of Leadership at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel, 1127 Connecticut Avenue NW. The Bar also will present its Beatrice Rosenberg Award for excellence in government service and its William J. Brennan Jr. Award for excellence in the pursuit of equal justice and opportunity for all Americans.
