Our New Home

Our Vision


 

Having paid for its fourth move since its founding in 1972, coupled with the fact that office rents have increased an average of 2.9 percent a year for the past 20 years in the District, the D.C. Bar considered how best to address and contain occupancy costs in the future. 

In 2010 the Bar created a building reserve fund to plan for future expenses related to its offices. After extensive research into occupancy options, combined with favorable interest rates and market conditions, the Bar moved forward with its plans to build a new home. 

While the Bar was unable to communicate information publicly during active negotiations, the Board of Governors signed an agreement to purchase land and construct a new headquarters on October 27, 2015. The Bar acquired its new headquarters site from Quadrangle Development Corporation and The Wilkes Company, the joint venture developing Mount Vernon Place, the 2.1 million square-foot development in the heart of Mount Vernon Triangle. 

The new headquarters is expected to be completed by late 2017/early 2018.
