Types of services:
Catholic Charities provides high quality, low-cost legal services to immigrants residing in Washington D.C. and the Maryland suburbs. Our greatest need is for attorneys to take on direct representation of pro bono clients. We have a strong need for attorneys to help represent immigrant children who have come across the border without a parent. Our attorneys have helped abused, abandoned, and neglected unaccompanied immigrant children obtain legal status through SIJS (Special Immigrant Juvenile Status). We have also helped over 500 immigrant families seeking U visas and VAWA relief. In addition, we offer educational seminars and talks to the immigrant community and conduct trainings for pro bono attorneys.
Volunteer needs:
We welcome attorneys and paralegals who wish to do pro bono work in the field of immigration. Volunteers may work with staff on clients' cases, conduct weekly intake, work with clients at weekend workshops, and conduct outreach.
