Part 4: Overview of Immigration Litigation, Asylum, and Humanitarian Relief

This class will cover the key aspects of immigration law for individuals who are not eligible for employment-based or family-based sponsorship. Specifically, some individuals who travel to the United States for fear of persecution in their home countries based on their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group are eligible to apply for asylum. In addition, some individuals may be eligible for other humanitarian relief such as Temporary Protected Status (TPS), protection under the Violence Against Women Act, humanitarian parole, or other deferred action. Overall, individuals who are in the United States without valid immigration status, or who have been involved in activities that may jeopardize their immigration status, can be placed in removal proceedings. Learn from our experts how individuals may be placed in removal proceedings and what options may be available to them. This session provides an overview of the statutory and regulatory framework of removal proceedings, asylum, and humanitarian relief options.
