Public Benefits Training Series: TANF Session: Cash Assistance for Families in Need

Date & Time: Monday, September 29, 2014 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm

CLE Credit: No

Event Description

Join advocates and lawyers to learn about two significant benefits available to some District residents: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, also known as Food Stamps).  With another steep benefit cut coming this October for families who have received TANF for more than five years and new changes to rules for families facing certain types of hardships, Kate Coventry (DC Fiscal Policy Institute) and Westra Miller (Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia) will discuss TANF eligibility, exemptions to the TANF time limit, and sanctions for this critical safety net program.  Although the program will focus on TANF, eligibility for SNAP will also be briefly discussed.

* Lunch is not provided - please feel free to bring your lunch with you!
