Award Categories

There are multiple categories of Luminary Awards. They are:

  1. Excellence in Publications
    • Excellence in Regular Publications
    • Excellence in Special Publications
  2. Excellence in Public Relations
  3. Excellence in Web Sites
  4. Excellence in Marketing Campaign
  5. Excellence in Electronic Publications

Three awards will be given in each of those four categories: one for large bars with more than 15,000 members; one for medium-sized bars with more than 5,000 but less than 15,000 members; and one for small bars with a membership equal to or less than 5,000.

A publication effort that exemplifies excellence in writing, editing and design in meeting the needs of the publication’s targeted legal audience. Awards will be given in two categories: Regular Publications and Special Publications.
Regular Publications:
include but are not limited to: magazines, periodicals, journals, e-newsletters, newspapers, newsletters, and CLE materials.
Special Publications:
include but are not limited to: annual reports, anniversay books, calendars, directories, consumer education publications and special issues of a regular publication

These awards will be judged on the following:

  1. consistent quality of writing and readability
  2. quality, clarity and effectiveness of design and format
  3. success in meeting stated objectives and reaching targeted audience
  4. effective use of available resources
How to submit for Publications:
By May 27 complete and submit the online entry form for the category you are entering (i.e., either Regular or Special Publications).

In addition to that, 1) for regular publications submit three different issues of the publication project for this entry that were produced since June 2010; 2) for special publications submit one copy of a single-publication project that you consider to be your best effort that was published since June 2009. Also print out a single copy of your application (available after having completed the application online) and enclose it with the other materials. Mail those entries, postmarked by Friday, May 27, 2011 to:

Public Relations awards will be judged upon the following:
  1. appropriateness of methodology
  2. quality of materials, innovation and technical excellence
  3. success in meeting stated objectives
  4. effective use of available resources
How to submit for Excellence in Public Relations: You must complete and submit the online entry form by Friday, May 27, 2011. Submit your best public relations effort produced since June 2010. This may include press releases, PSAs, campaign materials, videos, marketing plans, brochures, and special events materials. (No publications unless they serve a special public relations function.) Provide any supporting material used in the execution of this project that would help the judges better understand your work. Also print out a single copy of your application (available after having completed the application online) and enclose it with the other materials. Mail those entries, postmarked by Friday, May 27, 2011, to:

A web site effort that exemplifies excellence in usefulness, ease of use, content and design in meeting the needs of the Web site’s targeted audience.

Web site will be judged upon the following:

  1. navigability, ease of use
  2. design
  3. success in meeting stated objectives and reaching targeted audience
  4. content (analytical resources, current news, links)
  5. innovation and technical excellence

How to submit for Excellence in Web Sites:
Complete and submit the online entry form by Friday, May 27, 2011. If portions of your web site are behind a password gate and you'd like those portions to be evaluated, please provide the judges with a username/password.


Excellence in Marketing Campaign
A marketing compaign exemplifies excellence in promoting a bar association program or event designed to produce revenue. Examples include a marketing campaign to promote an Annual Meeting, a continuing legal education program, special revenue-producing events.
     
     These awards will be judged on the following:
  1. Success in defining and meeting the goals and objectives and reaching targeted audiences.
  2. Quality, creativity and effectiveness of design pieces and format.
  3. Effective execution of the marketing campaign, including the implementation plan, impact of the product, service or event on the target audience and correlation of results and objectives, as well as appropriateness of all elements.
  4. Effective use of available resources.
How to submit for Excellence in Marketing Campaign:
Submissions can include print advertisements, pamphlets, brochures, direct mail pieces, or other campaign materials produced since June 2010. (Marketing campaigns conducted by affinity program sponsors or vendors are not eligible for this award.) Also print out a single copy of your application (available after having completed the application online) and enclose it with the other materials. Mail those entries, postmarked by Friday, May 27, 2011, to:

Excellence in Electronic Publications
An e-newsletter or other publication distributed electronically that exemplifies excellence in its content, design, usefulness and ease of use     

Electronic Publications will be judge upon the following:

  1. Content (actual materials and usefulness of links)
  2. Design and usability
  3. Success in meeting stated objectives and reaching targeted audience
  4. Innovation and technical excellence

How to submit for Excellence in Electronic Publications:
Complete and submit the online entry form by Friday, May 27, 2011. Set up a subscription to your electronic newsletter or other electronic publication for the address: luminary@texasbar.com If any password access is needed, please provide that password in an email to the luminary@texasbar.com address. If you are unable to do this, please provide electronic or print copies of three (3) editions of your electronic publication. Send those copies to:
