The vacancy is the result of Associate Judge Mary A. Gooden Terrell’s retirement, which becomes effective May 30.
D.C. code requires the commission to submit to the president of the United States, within 60 days of the vacancy, the names of three persons for possible nomination and appointment to the court. Qualified applicants must be citizens of the United States, active members of the D.C. Bar, bona fide residents of the District of Columbia, and, for the five-year period immediately preceding the nomination, engaged in the active practice of law in the District of Columbia, on the faculty of a law school in the District, or employed as an attorney by the federal or D.C. government.
