General Counsel Series Features Department of Defense's Jeh Johnson

On November 4 the D.C. Bar Administrative Law and Agency Practice Section will host another presentation of its “General Counsel Series,” featuring U.S. Department of Defense General Counsel Jeh C. Johnson.

The Office of the General Counsel at the Department of Defense is one of the largest law offices in the federal government. It addresses a staggering array of legal issues—from the law of war to procurement, from export controls to environmental protection, and, at the moment, the myriad of questions raised by the treatment of detainees in the war on terror as well as the future role of the detention camp at the U.S. Naval Station in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

Johnson was appointed to his present position on February 10, 2009, having previously served as a federal prosecutor and as general counsel of the U.S. Air Force, and having been a successful trial lawyer in private practice.

The program takes place from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. at WilmerHale LLP, 1875 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. It is cosponsored by the D.C. Bar Government Contracts and Litigation Section, International Law Section, and Litigation Section, and the International Human Rights Committee and National Security Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of International Law.
