Labor and Employment Law Section 2007 Stipends Awarded
In May 2007, the Labor and Employment Law Section (LELSC) awarded three
stipends to deserving students and an organization. Brian Lowinger chaired
the ad hoc committee that established the criteria for the stipend selection
process and recommended the nominees to the section steering committee.
Several Steering Committee members, including Bruce Waxman, assisted him
in the process, and by vote, the full steering committee awarded the three
stipends to:
- The D.C. Employment Justice Center, which inter alia offers low-cost bilingual legal services to low-income workers in the metropolitan D.C. area on employment law matters. The D.C. Employment Justice Center received a $2,000 stipend.
- Sarah K. Brown, who will be an unpaid law clerk at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in the Office of General Counsel. She will be entering her third year of law school in the Fall at Washington College of Law, American University. She is receiving a $1500 stipend.
- Linda C. Lau, who will be an unpaid intern or law clerk at the Appellate Review Program, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s Office of Federal Operations, receives a $1500 stipend. She also will be entering her third year of law school in the Fall at Washington College of Law, American University.
The LELSC has awarded stipends to students for the last three years and
seeks to continue to assist future students and nonprofit public interest
organizations in their labor-and employment-related endeavors.
