This year, the Health Law Section is off and running with programs and volunteer opportunities.
Get Involved
First, George Washington University Law School is putting on a career
fair for first year law students entitled "Exploring Practice Areas."
Come and speak to law students about the array of health law subspecialties
for all or part of the fair on October 30 from 3:00–5:00 pm. For
additional details, contact Health Law Section Steering Committee member
Lori Mihalich-Levin.
Second, our Young Practitioners and Community Outreach committees both invite you to get involved in interesting and rewarding activities. If you are interested in Young Practitioners' networking, contact Lori at the e-mail above. If Community Outreach is more your thing, contact Cathy Scheineson or Lori about becoming involved in projects that benefit the community such as health care decision making.
Third, if your style is more to write and edit, the Health Law Section is responsible for two chapters in the D.C. Practice Manual, one on HMOs and one on Mental Health Proceedings. We hope to add a section to the Mental Health Proceedings chapter on capacity to consent and guardianship. If you are interested in reviewing, editing, or writing some or all of those chapters, please contact Melinda Murray.
Get up to Speed
The Health Law Section is co-sponsoring a brown bag lunch with the Women's Bar Association entitled Health Care Fraud: False Claims Act Settlements and Corporate Integrity Agreements, on October 22, 2009 at 12:00 at the D.C. Bar Conference Center, 1101 K Street. The dynamite panel includes lawyers from both the defense and whistleblowers, along with HHS and the Department of Justice.
Where else can you hear this distinguished panel for $15 as a Health Law Section member?
