Call For All Kinds of Volunteers
The Health Law Steering Committee has a number of opportunities for you to meet some new people, expand your network, and maybe do some good.
Community Outreach
The committee guides the existing community outreach projects of the
Health Law Section as well as develops new projects and opportunities
for the Section. The most recent achievement is the Residents' Rights
Card (see below.) The committee holds conference calls and other ad
hoc meetings as appropriate. Please contact Paul Kim by email
or at 410/347-7344, or Patrick Hope by email
or at 202/261-4541, if you are interested in playing an instrumental
role in the community outreach activities of the Health Law Section.
Young Practitioners
This committee plans networking and social events for young practitioners.
A terrific opportunity to get to know other lawyers in the section.
Paul Kim is the contact.
D.C. Practice Manual
Does your firm have some pro bono hours or maybe you would just like the experience? The Health Law Section is responsible for two chapters in the D.C. Practice Manual, one on Mental Health Proceedings and one on Managed Care. We are looking for a reviewer who has expertise in each subject.
Upcoming Events:
CLE:
The Health Law Section is repeating two popular three–hour CLE courses in the life sciences: Regulation of Clinical Trials and Patents and Licenses in the Life Sciences. A third life sciences CLE course is being planned.
The Fundamentals of Health Law course will also be offered from January 29–March 5. This is a perfect opportunity for new practitioners or those who would like a brush up on the myriad regulations we wade into.
D.C. Youth Law Fair
Superior Court
March 7, 2009
9:00 a.m.–4:15 p.m.
D.C. youth will be given an opportunity to tour the courthouse, participate
in mock trials, obtain career information about law jobs, and see the
exhibits in the exhibit hall. The event is sponsored by the Litigation
Section and co-sponsored by other sections. Section members can volunteer
to help witnesses in the mock trials and at other events. To volunteer,
contact youthlawfair@dcbar.org
by February 25.
Congratulations and Thanks
The Community Outreach Committee of the Health Law Section, working with the D.C. Long Term Care Ombudsman, successfully created pocket-sized cards with a list of rights for residents of long term care. These cards will be handed out by law enforcement officers and other advocates. These are the kind of projects for which we are looking for volunteers.
