Computer and Telecommunications Law Section’s Community Outreach Activities

RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS FOR:

DC Energy Office, DC Office of the People’s Counsel, and Local Utility Companies’ Annual Joint Utility Discount Day (JUDD)

Volunteers are needed to process applications for District of Columbia residents to receive discounts on their local telephone service, water, gas, and electric bill.

Runners: Volunteers are needed to be “runners”. Runners help seat applicants at in-take tables, verify and copy applications. Volunteers are needed at the following times:
7 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Please contact Marilyn Emerson, DC Energy Office at 202-673-6740 to volunteer as a runner, or if you would like general information about JUDD.

2008 Events

Youth Law Fair 2008
On Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the D.C. Superior Courthouse, the D.C. Bar Litigation Section is hosting a criminal and civil mock trial relating to the theme, “Internet Issues: Dangers of Social Networks and Blogs. ” The Computer and Telecommunications Law Section will host an exhibit table where students will receive educational materials and play games relating to Internet Safety, Accountability, and Responsibility.

Finding New Uses for Old Cellular Phones
Plans are being made to arrange a drive and distribution point to recycle old and used cellular phones to donate to a D.C. organization.

Adopt-a-Family
In the spirit of "giving back to the community" and making a difference in the life of a needy family, we plan to work with a DC agency and adopt a family to help provide some of their basic needs.
