John Dalier and Linda M. Estrada were recognized by the American Intellectual Property Law Association as 2009 USPTO Trademark Examining Attorneys of the Year for their outstanding contributions to the integrity of intellectual property law while in distinguished service at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office… Peggy R. Mastroianni, associate legal counsel of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, was awarded the American Bar Association’s 2009 Federal Labor and Employment Attorney of the Year Award… Andrea C. Ferster received the 2009 District of Columbia Historic Preservation Review Board Chairman’s Award for Excellence in Law and Public Policy at the D.C. Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation program… Glen H. Ackerman, managing partner at Ackerman Legal PLLC; David A. Catania, at-large councilmember for the District of Columbia; Scott Fulton, general counsel of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; and James E. Showen, partner at Hogan & Hartson LLP, received GAYLAW’s Distinguished Service Award for their continued commitment to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community… Kilpatrick Stockton LLP attorney Svetlana S. Gans has been selected to serve a two-year term as the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division’s Liaison to the Section of Antitrust Law… Simeon M. Kriesberg, a partner at Mayer Brown LLP, will receive the 2010 Judge Learned Hand Award from the American Jewish Committee, which recognizes professional distinction and community service… John B. Britton, managing partner at Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP, was reelected to a two-year term as a member of the city council in Rockville, Maryland.

William B. “Bill” Anaya has joined Alston & Bird LLP as counsel in its legislative and public policy practice group, focusing on providing strategic counsel and advocacy for clients across a broad spectrum of industry… Lisa S. Blatt, former assistant to the solicitor general for the U.S. Department of Justice, has joined Arnold & Porter LLP as partner and will lead the firm’s appellate and U.S. Supreme Court practice… Barry A. Miller has joined Harvard University’s Office of the General Counsel in Cambridge, Massachusetts… Anna Marie Gallagher has joined Maggio & Kattar, P.C. as shareholder and will lead the firm’s litigation team and the expansion of its global visa program… Elizabeth A. Ising, Benjamin H. Rippeon, and Geoffrey M. Sigler were elected partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP… Mayer Brown LLP has named Michael E. Lackey Jr. to serve on the firm’s partnership board. Fred W. Reinke has joined the firm’s litigation practice as partner, focusing on both insurance/reinsurance and international litigation matters. Joseph R. Baker has been promoted to partner in the firm’s electronic discovery and records management practice… Elizabeth Sun-Young Kim has joined Pasternak & Fidis, P.C. as associate in its estate planning and administration group… Jonathan P. Moss has become deputy assistant general counsel for operations at the U.S. Department of Transportation… Hilary S. Company Changes
The Berliner Law Firm, PLLC, representing individuals in labor and employment law matters, has relocated its offices to 2101 L Street NW, suite 1000, in Washington, D.C…. Jacobs & Associates, Attorneys-at-Law, LLC has merged with the law firm of Joseph, Greenwald & Laake, P.A. at 111 Rockville Pike, suite 975, in Rockville, Maryland… Partnerships at Hogan & Hartson LLP and Lovells LLP have approved the merger of their firms. The combined firm will be known as Hogan Lovells beginning May 1, 2010.

Ira Robbins, professor at American University’s Washington College of Law, wrote two articles, “Best Practices on ‘Best Practices:’ Legal Education and Beyond” and “Best Practices: What’s the Point,” for the fall 2009 issue of the Clinical Law Review… Georgetown University Law Center Associate Dean Vicki C. Jackson explores how treaties, customary international law, the decisions of foreign or international tribunals, and other transnational influences affect the understanding of constitutions and courts in deciding constitutional cases in her new book Constitutional Engagement in a Transnational Era, published by Oxford University Press… Robert Ruxin, general counsel of Kazmaier Associates, Inc., has written the fifth edition of An Athlete’s Guide to Agents, with a new forward by Georgetown men’s basketball coach John Thompson III.
