- Training offered:
- Yes. We provide a new volunteer orientation and training, "Intake 1010" and a Part II - Substantive Law training on public benefits, shelter, and housing law. We provide ongoing case-counseling and training as well.
- Types of services:
- Direct representation to individuals and families in public benefits, shelter, housing and other civil legal matters. Clients must be homeless, living in shelters or public housing, or in imminent danger of becoming homeless. Systemic advocacy on broad range of poverty issues, such as welfare, disability benefits and affordable housing.
- Volunteer needs:
- Attorneys or attorney/paralegal teams are needed to conduct intake interviews, provide advice, assistance and follow-up representation when necessary. REQUIREMENTS: To volunteer with the Legal Clinic, attorneys must be a current member of the DC Bar or have begun the procedure to waive-in admission. Federal government attorneys must be a member in good standing of the highest court of any state. Paralegals may volunteer only in partnership with and under the direct supervision of an attorney. Both parties of a Paralegals-attorney team must attend the volunteer orientation & training. Volunteers are expected to provide any needed follow-up and case representation for clients met at their assigned Legal Clinic Intake sessions.
