Volunteer Interpreter/Translator Registration

The Volunteer Interpreter/Translator Registry lists volunteers with language skills who agree to provide interpretation and/or translation services in legal cases involving poor people with limited English proficiency.

Volunteers typically assist with interpretation and/or translation in the following types of cases:

  • Housing
  • Family Law
  • Consumer
  • Social Security/Disability
  • Immigration
Volunteer lawyers also may choose to provide legal services, though the focus of the registry is to recruit interpreters and translators.

Volunteer interpreters/translators control the types of services and amount of time they dedicate to this project. Simply enlisting for the registry in no way obligates a volunteer.

Administered by the law firm Ross, Dixon & Bell, L.L.P., a lawyer representing a poor person who needs the services of an interpreter and/or translator may contact Ross, Dixon & Bell, L.L.P. and request a referral.

To volunteer, contact Pamela Wahl of Ross, Dixon & Bell, L.L.P. at 202- 662-2033, or submit an online form.

If you have additional questions about the registry, please contact Elizabeth Campbell, supervising attorney at the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program, at 202-737-4700, ext. 295.
