Pro Bono Program and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius Launch Tax Sale Redemption Project

On July 11, 2007, volunteer attorneys from Morgan, Lewis & Bockius staffed the first ever session of the court based Tax Sale Resource Center. The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program, with the encouragement and support of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, recruited law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius to partner in the creation of a Tax Sale Redemption Project.

Led by partner Michael Wilson, the Morgan, Lewis & Bockius team is staffing the Tax Sale Resource Center on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. The volunteer attorneys interview pro se litigants appearing on the tax sale calendar and provide brief, on the spot services. Volunteers provide legal information, advice and assistance with pleadings through the court based center. Volunteers also provide brief services to taxpayers and interested parties with tax sale related matters even if they are not involved in current litigation.

The Tax Sale Redemption Project also provides extended services, including representation, to low income homeowners seeking to preserve their primary residences by defending actions to foreclose.

For more information, please contact Dan Clark at 202/737-4700 extension 354.
