D.C. Bar Courts, Lawyers and the Administration of Justice Section and Arts, Entertainment, Media and Sports Law Section
Present a Summer Series Off-the-Record Luncheon program
As always, the Supreme Court will address important questions this term: Is the federal “partial birth” anti-abortion statute constitutional? Do taxpayers have standing to challenge Executive Branch violations of the Establishment Clause? Does the Constitution prohibit assigning students to public elementary and secondary schools by race to achieve “racial balance”? Equally interesting questions don't involve legal issues: Is this the “Roberts Court” or the “Kennedy Court”? How has the change in personnel changed the dynamics of the Court? The Court's formal decisions will be on the front pages, but what happens behind the scenes? The justices and their law clerks won't talk, but this panel of distinguished journalists who cover the Supreme Court will take a behind-the-headlines look at the major cases and issues before the Court this term, as well as the personalities and interactions among the justices. They will also offer their annual predictions for next term.
