Description: This two-part series was designed with the needs of both the intellectual property (IP) and government contract practitioner in mind. This introductory course will provide you with the information you need to preserve and protect your client's IP interests in the government contract setting. Faculty will cover many aspects of IP rights, including an overview of the types of intellectual property that may be affected by a government contract, important government contract concepts that IP practitioners need to understand, strategies for preserving IP rights in the government contract context, available remedies against the government in cases of misuse, and much more.
Part 1: Relationship Between Intellectual Property and Government Contracts and Remedies for Government Misuse of IP (April 15)
This session covers the relationship between IP and government contracts, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. You will learn how the government acquires IP rights and the significance of the acquisition of IP rights in government contracts. In addition, this session will address government misuse of intellectual property and possible remedies, including injunctions and damages.
Part 2: Practical Strategies for the Preservation of IP Rights in Government Contracts (April 22)
This session covers practical strategies for the preservation of copyright, trade secrets, patents, and other IP rights when contracting with both Department of Defense and civilian agencies within the government, including financing, pre-contract submissions, types of transactions, the monitoring process, and data policies.
