Small Business Legal Issues: A Training for Attorneys
Thursday, February 28, 2013
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Dickstein Shapiro LLP
1825 Eye Street, NW
Washington, DC 20006
The purpose of the training session is to expand the pool of lawyers prepared to provide pro bono assistance to aspiring and existing entrepreneurs through the Small Business Brief Advice Legal Clinics, which are held by the DC Bar Pro Bono Program's Community Economic Development Project.
Small businesses serve as the cornerstone for economic development in disadvantaged areas, but cannot afford legal fees for advice that may determine whether they sink or swim. The Clinics are an opportunity for entrepreneursto speak to an attorney about small business legal issues. Because it is a brief advice clinic, volunteer attorneys are not expected to provide ongoing representation.
In FY 2012, there were ten Clinics and 266 small businesses sought assistance.
This program will focus on business formation, real estate issues, intellectual property considerations, and employment law as they relate to the unique circumstances of small neighborhood-based businesses. This program is appropriate for attorneys only. Attorneys who take this course are encouraged to volunteer at one Small Business Brief Advice Legal Clinic.
Cost: Free. Continental breakfast will be provided.
Registration: Online at www.dcbar.org/probono Click on the bottom register now button.
