"AT CAPACITY"Probate Resource Center Training Session

Time: Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm
Description

PLEASE NOTE: Pro bono training sessions are not MCLE-accredited

The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program is now recruiting and training attorneys of all levels of probate experience to volunteer at the Probate Resource Center.  Attorneys who volunteer at the Probate Resource Center provide brief services to unrepresented parties who need assistance with issues in large estate administration.  The services provided by a volunteer attorney may include counseling customers about the probate process; working with customers to prepare the Petition for Probate and related documents; helping customers understand how property should be distributed to beneficiaries; or helping customers with the transfer of property to beneficiaries>

This training will prepare participants to volunteer at the Resource Center by introducing basic estate administration practices and procedures.  Upon completion of training, attorneys will be expected to volunteer at the Probate Resource Center under the direct supervision of an experienced probate practitioner.  The time commitment requested of each attorney is sixteen hours per year, which would require staffing the Resource Center four times per year, with each session scheduled on Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  No particular expertise is required and malpractice insurance is provided to all volunteers of the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program.

This opportunity is a great way to serve the District's most vulnerable residents through a volunteer experience that has a finite time commitment.  Additionally, for attorneys with less probate experience, this offers an opportunity to learn about basic estate administration practices and procedures from more experienced practitioners.

If you require a physical accommodation or have questions, please contact the Pro Bono Program at 202-737-4700, ext. 3293.
