Tax Sale Resource Center
Since the Tax Sale Resource Center opened in 2007, it has helped more than 1,000 customers facing the loss of their homes because of delinquent tax bills, often for very small amounts. In 2013, however, as a result of the D.C. Council's very impactful legislation to provide greater protections to homeowners throughout the tax sale process, there has been a significant decline in individuals seeking assistance at the Tax Sale Resource Center. While we were once seeing 200 people a year at the resource center, we only saw 58 last fiscal year, and 28 customers this year. This speaks to the success of the legislative reform.
Due to the significantly declining need for the Tax Sale Resource Center, the Pro Bono Center will be redirecting our resources to our other many programs that help to serve unrepresented parties in the District. On March 2 the Tax Sale Resource Center closed.
We will continue to serve individuals in need of assistance and advice on tax sale matters through our Advice & Referral Clinics. These clinics are held the second Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to noon and provide advice and brief services on a wide variety of civil legal issues.
