Judicial Reception

Friday, April 9, 2010, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Judges, practitioners, and others active in the legal profession attended this distinguished event as the Bar honored the local and federal judiciary of the District of Columbia, especially those who had retired or taken senior status in the past year.

Judges who were honored at the 2010 Judicial Reception included:

  • The Honorable Geoffrey M. Alprin, Associate Judge, Superior Court of the District of Columbia
  • The Honorable Jerry Byrd, Associate Judge, Superior Court of the District of Columbia
  • The Honorable Rafael Diaz, Associate Judge, Superior Court of the District of Columbia
  • The Honorable Cheryl M. Long, Senior Judge, Superior Court of the District of Columbia
  • The Honorable Paul R. Michel, Chief Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit
  • The Honorable Alvin A. Schall, Judge, Senior Circuit, United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit
  • The Honorable Paul L. Friedman, Judge, United States District Court for the District of Columbia

Also at the reception, the D.C. Bar Foundation presented its 2010 Jerrold Scoutt Prize for exceptional service. This year the Bar Foundation gave a joint prize to co-recipients Eric Angel, Legal Director for the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia (Legal Aid) and Vytas Vergeer, Legal Clinic Director for Bread for the City, for their collaborative efforts to reform pro bono tenant representation in the D.C. Superior Court Landlord and Tenant Branch.

The Scoutt Prize, named in honor of Jerrold Scoutt, Jr., a founding partner of Zuckert, Scoutt & Rasenberger LLP, is awarded annually to an attorney employed full time with a legal service provider in the Washington area.

For D.C. Bar members and all conference participants, the Judicial Reception was free to attend. The evening included complimentary hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and live music performed by the talented Jazz Barristers.
