Static Site Main Concepts

The main purpose of the Static Content Generation module is to improve performance, reliability, and scalability while decreasing the overall cost of hosting a site. Generating static HTML files instead of processing pages via a dynamic application server improves siteperformance by minimizing processing overhead. Static Content Generation greatly improves site reliability since there are fewer components (application servers, databases, etc.) that can fail. Static generation benefits site since it is much easier and more cost effective to scale standard HTTP servers than application servers. And finally, serving static content decreases total cost since it requires minimal configuration and software.

(In addition to Static Content Generation, CommonSpot also offers performance benefits through Stale Cache handling, the CommonSpot Cache Server, and page performance reporting.)

This section introduces several of the main concepts required to understand the Static Content Generation module.
