Lawyer Assistance Program

Volunteer Opportunities

Practice Volunteers (Mentors)
The D.C. Bar Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP) has a strong volunteer component which allows lawyers who have faced similar problems and have overcome them to offer their guidance and assistance to LAP clients in a mentoring relationship.

If you have any questions or if you would like to become a LAP volunteer, please contact Denise Perme, manager, Lawyer Assistance Program, at 202-347-3131 or dperme@dcbar.org.

Lawyer Assistance Committee Members
In the fall, the D.C. Bar Board of Governors seeks candidates for appointments to the Lawyer Assistance Committee. All candidates must be members of the D.C. Bar, except positions designated for nonlawyer members. Committee members are appointed to serve a two–year term, which can be renewed, and can only serve three consecutive two–year terms.

To apply for a committee opening, applicants must submit a résumé and a cover letter stating the committee on which they would like to serve, and a description of work or volunteer experiences providing relevant skills for the position(s) sought to executive.office@dcbar.org. Applications that do not include the requisite cover letter with a description of relevant experience will not be considered. Leadership experience with other D.C. Bar committees, voluntary bar associations, or the Bar’s sections is highly desirable. Descriptions of the committees can be found here.

Applicants must submit a cover letter and résumé to executive.office@dcbar.org or mail to the D.C. Bar Executive Office, 1101 K Street NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20005–4210.

If you would like to know more about the program or if you have questions, please contact Denise Perme, manager, Lawyer Assistance Program, at 202-347-3131 or dperme@dcbar.org.
